Happy 2010

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2009 was good to you and that 2010 is better then ever!
I can't believe the decade is over. This decade may have been one of the most important decades of my life.
This decade saw me into motherhood. It introduced me to the love of my life. It took both my mothers from me.
This decade brought me love, & heartache and showed me & Hubby how to find our way back.
This decade has been interesting to say the least.

Here's to hoping the next decade is just as wonderful.
Happy 2010 everyone =)

The Savvy Savin' Mama: Reminder- It's time to thaw your Turkey!

Turkey Thawing Hints from the National Turkey Federation
Turkeys can be thawed using one of three methods, but the most fool proof is in the refrigerator. The key to this method is to plan ahead and allow approximately 24 hours for every four to five pounds of bird weight for thawing in the refrigerator. This method is the safest and will result in the best finished product. Place the bird, in the original wrapping, on a shallow baking sheet in the refrigerator. The following chart provides good guidelines for thawing times.
Refrigerator Turkey Thawing Time (40 degrees F)
Turkey WeightDays to Allow for Thawing Turkey
8 to 12 pounds 2 to 2.5 days
12 to 16 pounds 2.5 to 4 days
16 to 20 pounds 4 to 5 days
20 to 24 pounds 5 to 6 days
If you need to thaw the turkey more quickly, you may thaw the bird in COLD water, in the original wrapping. The cold water must be changed every 30 minutes. Allow approximately 30 minutes per pound using this method.
COLD Water Turkey Thawing Time
Turkey WeightHours to Allow for Thawing Turkey
8 to 12 pounds4 to 6 hours
12 to 16 pounds6 to 8 hours
16 to 20 pounds8 to 10 hours
20 to 24 pounds10 to 12 hours

Go To Bed Mad- Monica ♫

[Chorus:]
I think your wrong
You think your right
And all that equals up to is a fight
Let's compromise
Before we go to bed tonight
Cause if the fight don't die before the sun rise we may wake up on the wrong side
Let's not go to bed mad tonight

[Monica:]
Time is ticking
My eyes are getting heavy but I know we gotta squash this
Before it was popping
It's time for dropping
Copping attitudes right now
Nothings, nothing
Cause this ain't nothing
Don't you know that I love you
So start to stopping
Think about it
You'll see it's stupid

[Bridge:]
Agrue about things so critical
And you heated over nothing
And just hang up the phone
I want
I wanna talk in the mood
See we need a resoltuion
Like that Aaliyah song

[Chorus:]

[Tyrese:]
What time is it
I'm not on a mission
To stay up with you all night
It makes me so sick
To my stomach
Everytime we argue and fight
I mean it girl my head gets lite
(It just ain't right)
I'm feed right up please
It's 2:15 in the morning
There is no need

[Chorus:]

[Tyrese(Monica):]
Am not trying to be mad at you
Why you make me wanna not fool with you
Can't you see I'm tired girl
(Besides the fact it's a quarter past 2)
(A girl like me got things to do)
(So let's see each others point of view)

[Chorus:]

[Repeat]

I just wanna love you baby
I place no one above you baby
You're the only one for me
Let's not argue my baby
Everything you want and need
And my baby come and take my hand
I got you baby
Let me be the man you want in your life baby

Stealing Big Bird

Every Wednesday us Londoners in ontario get a free community paper, "the londoner"
It's basically what's going on in the city...etc etc, there's usually letters about stuff that was published last week, or about the goings on in the city.
This week as i was reading i couldn't help but notice this letter by Betty Warwick.

"I am a gardener and we live on a street with a Montessori School. In our garden we have put some animals and interesting things for the school children to see while they take their walk each day.
One of those things was Big Bird who sat on a rock to greet the children. Last fall someone stole Big Bird. This spring our kind neighbours found another Big Bird for us at a garage sale so we put it back out for the children.
Last week someone who obviously has no respect for other people's property took our second Big Bird from his perch. Now the children who stopped to talk to Big Bird and the other animals are unhappy because he is not there.
What an unhappy world when someone has to stoop to taking an ornament from a garden just to be smart.
Would the person(s) who removed Big Bird kindly put him back - even if it is at night when we cannot see you, so the children can enjoy him once again...or if anyone knows where he is they could call me and I will pick him up."
How sad is it that some morons felt the need to steal a big bird statue out of some ones yard? A big bird statue that they put there just to make the children have something to look forward to on their daily walks. What kind of people do stuff like that?

But not in victoria secret!

WTF?!

In a Victoria's Secret store, surrounded by frilly bras and blown-up images of barely covered models, Lori Rueger says she was told to find somewhere else to breast feed. The 29-year-old Charleston mother testified that she was in a Victoria's Secret store in suburban Mount Pleasant and was told by an employee that she could not breast feed her baby in a dressing room and was encouraged to use a restroom in a nearby store instead.

I don't care what your stance on breastfeeding in public is,feeding a child in the bathroom is frigging disgusting. 1) she was in a dressing room she was PRIVATE (hell- I would have sat on a bench and nursed,i have many times, and no one sees a damn thing unless they're trying to. It's called being discreet, 99.9% of breastfeeding moms are!) 2) It's a freaking lingerie store. They sell bras, but using breasts to feed children is some how wrong?

For those that have been sent on a different journey, may their new journey be an adventure.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time
I could spare an extra minute,
I would stop to say "I love you",
instead of assuming you would know I do.
If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow,
to make up for an oversite,
and we always get a second chance to make everything just right.
There will always be another day
to say "I love you",
and certainly there's another chance
to say our "anything I can do?".
But just incase I may be wrong,
and today is all we get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
and today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if your waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day.
That you didn't take the extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss;
and you where to busy to grant someone
what turned out to be their last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
tell them how much you love them, and that you'll always hold them dear.
Take time to say "I'm sorry",
"Please forgive me", "Thank you", or "It's okay".
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

(this tear-filled poem was snagged from an lj friend)

How to be a good wife!

The following is an excerpt from a 1950's home economics textbook intended for high school girls, teaching them how to prepare for married life. It has been modified a bit to be more in keeping with the ideals of the Domestic Drones. And who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks?

THEN: Have dinner ready. Plan ahead, even the night before, to have a delicious meal - on time. This is a way of letting him know that you have been thinking about him, and are concerned about his needs. Most men are hungry when they come home and the prospects of a good meal are part of the warm welcome needed.

NOW: Familiarize yourself with the take-out options on your husband's way home from work. It is always a good idea to stash the takeout menus in your husband's glove box. This way they are conveniently located within arm's reach when he needs to call ahead to order dinner on his way home from work. And he won't get in a car accident searching all over the car for them!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THEN: Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you will be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your makeup, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people. Be a little gay and a little more interesting. His boring day may need a lift.

NOW: Don't worry about your clothes...if bra-less is good enough for the mailman and UPS delivery guy, it's good enough for your husband!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Clear away the clutter. Make one last trip through the main part of the house just before your husband arrives, gathering up school books, toys, paper, etc. Then run a dust cloth over the tables. Your husband will feel he has reached a haven of rest and order, and it will give you a lift, too.

NOW: If you can see the floor, the house is clean enough.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Prepare the children. Take a few minutes to wash the children's hands and faces if they are small, comb their hair, and if necessary, change their clothes. They are little treasures and he would like to see them playing the part.

NOW: Are you fucking kidding me??????

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Minimize the noise. At the time of his arrival, eliminate all noise of washer, dryer, dishwasher or vacuum. Try to encourage the children to be quiet. Be happy to see him. Greet him with a warm smile and be glad to see him.

NOW: Ok...I've had to listen to the Wiggles and Barney all day long, and you want me to minimize the noise for HIM? Huh uh...misery loves company, baby!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Some Don'ts. Don't greet him with problems or complaints. Don't complain if he's late for dinner. Count this as minor compared with what he might have gone through that day.

NOW: Nothing he has gone through at work comes even close to staying home with a two-year old. Bitch all you want.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Make him comfortable. Have him lean back in a comfortable chair or suggest he lie down in the bedroom. Have a cool or warm drink ready for him. Arrange his pillow and offer to take off his shoes. Speak in a low, soft, soothing and pleasant voice. Allow him to relax and unwind.

NOW: At least attempt to acknowledge him when he gets home. Or better yet, ask him to join in on the fun of chasing the kids and dog around the house! Who knows...getting all hot 'n sweaty could lead to even more cardio activities later that night!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Listen to him. You may have a dozen things to tell him, but the moment of his arrival is not the time. Let him talk first.

NOW: How many parents of toddlers do you know who actually have adult conversations anymore? Yeah, that's what we thought...this one's obsolete.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: Make the evening his. Never complain if he does not take you out to dinner or to other places of entertainment; instead, try to understand his world of strain and pressure, his need to be home and relax.

NOW: Out to dinner? Entertainment? You'd damn well better complain if he doesn't do this for you! Tell his lazy ass to hire a babysitter once a month so people can wait on you for a change.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THEN: The goal. Try to make your home a place of peace and order where your husband can relax.
NOW: If you have to live in chaos, so does he!

Gawd,in the 50's i would have been a horrible wife!!!
